All in a Theme...

What is your wedding style? Classic? Fairytale? Romantic? Whimsical? Laid-back?

Figuring out the theme of your wedding is very important and can be greatly effected by your location and season. For instance, guests might not appreciate a Black Tie Affair (men in tuxedos and women in gowns) at your outdoor wedding in the middle of July! Wearing stilettos while climbing a hill would be deemed very challenging. Flip flops and khakis might not be appreciated in a ballroom! LOL...all of this seems pretty obvious, but it is best to know what look you are going for and to make sure your guests know how to dress for the occasion.

After you have picked your location you can begin to picture the look of your wedding at your new venue. Save pictures that you will use for inspiration. For our wedding (Joshua and I...did I mention my husband's name was Joshua?), we always knew we wanted an outdoor ceremony and let our guests know they would be walking on grass. We were going for a "magical forest" or a whimsical look.
Photos we used for inspiration are:

Remember to use your photos just as thoughts and ideas of things you like. But venture away from the photos and explore to find true perfection for yourself. Be sure to discuss this look with your florist, decorator, wedding coordinator, or whomever it be that is helping you design and execute your big day.

And here is how our dream came true....

Always remember to keep looking. And be organized. Start putting together a binder of photographs of inspiration. Your wedding will be here before you know it. Happy Wedding and Happy Holidays :).

Save the Date

After you get engaged and start thinking about planning the wedding, there are all these things you have to think about and consider (that you never realized before until planning your own wedding). Luckily the summer we were planning our wedding, two of our close friends were getting married. Each wedding was very different and amazing in their own way. And yes, we got fabulous ideas for our own wedding from our friends. Unfortunately, you cannot ask your friends to get married before you, just so you can learn from them. BUT, you can do your research. Before our wedding I became obsessed with BRIDES magazine and THE KNOT. The sooner you start looking the better :).

One of the things you need to think about and do right after finding your location is.....your SAVE THE DATE!!

Just like with any other aspect of your wedding, there are a million and one options. You need to figure out what style works for you and the look you are going for. You can be classic, whimsical, DIY, crafty, the list goes on! Here are some great Save the Date ideas and I have posted my own at the bottom :).

Save the date matches!!! And you can design you own box!! What a cute idea :). Design your own at www.foryourparty.com

Save the Date coasters and luggage tags! These are very different ideas and something that will definately be remembered by your guests. Design your own at www.beforeyourparty.com

OMG are these not the cutest ideas ever??!!! I really love them both and wish I was getting married again (to the same person hehe) just so I could try something like this!! Both of these Save the Dates can be found at www.marthastewartweddings.com

Calendar Save the Dates are a very cute way to remind guests about your wedding. They are quite a popular trend right now and I am sure you can see why :). I love sites that allow you personalize and preview their merchandise. This save the date can be found at www.weddingpaperdivas.com

These two Save the Dates are your more Classic post card style. I love how you can still show off your own personal style and these two styles are some of my favorites. These two save the dates can be found at www.looklovesend.com

AND NOW FOR THE GRAND FINALE!!! MY VERY OWN SAVE THE DATE!!

The summer we were planning our wedding, we got invited to two fabulous weddings. And one of those Save the Dates were unforgettable...literally!! Our good friends Mike and Kati were getting married and they sent out save the date MAGNETS. It was an ingenius idea! We put it on our fridge and never forgot the date of their wedding. And we even used it to hold up our other save the dates (it is still on our fridge today, years later). So I knew, magnet it was for me! (They really come in handy for those who tend to misplace things as well lol)

Our save the date can be found at www.savethedatemagnet.com . Every save the date is unique and cute in its very own way. I hope this helps you find your perfect save the date :)

(I have found some excellent save the date etiquette on the knot.com and it can be found here http://wedding.theknot.com/wedding-planning/save-the-dates/articles/save-the-dates-etiquette.aspx )

Location Location Location

So after the big engagement, things get rolling pretty quickly!! It seems as though no matter how much time you have to prepare for your wedding, there is truly never enough time. Someone quite intelligent once told me that too much time could potentially backfire as well. Well I pretty much had a year to plan my wedding and to add on top of that it was also going to be my first year mainstreaming into society with my first "real" job. Luckily, it was teaching so I still had the summer to get things started. We got engaged in June of 2010 and got married in July of 2011.My husband (but boyfriend at the time) and I live in Brooklyn, NY. When it came time to choosing a location for our wedding we both knew that we were heading back into the lovely Catskill Mountains, which is where both of our parents reside.

But after that it got tricky. My husbands Grandma wanted us to get married on her property. There had been a beautiful wedding there years back and she kept talking about how gorgeous it was. Unfortunately for us, we were not in the same financial situation as the couple who previously married there. There were decorators and vendors from the city just setting things up for days. We did not have that kind of budget and in fact we weren't even sure what our budget was!

We started looking at local places and here are a few fabulous places in the Catsill Mountains to get married that we found:

This photo is from Hanah Country Club, this is the back deck off of the clubhouse. www.Hanahcountryresort.com

This photo is from the Onteora Mountain house, http://www.onteora.com/ .

Ashton and Brian get married :)
A beautiful wedding of beautiful people at Belleayre Mountain, http://www.belleayre.com/summer/weddings.htm

But, in the end for us, it was the FULL MOON RESORT that won our hearts (photos and description below). We had everything for our wedding take place here at the Full Moon Resort from ceremony, to cocktail hour, to reception, to after party. There are accomodations for everyone to stay and we even had a Farewell Breakfast the following morning with our guests. http://www.fullmoonresort.com/

This is a photo taken at our ceremony location. This is at the Lower Grove on the Full Moon Resort grounds. The photo was taken by Click photography (www.click-pictures.com)

This photo was taken by my Aunt Joanie :). And this is at the cocktail hour, which was located at the Barn on the Full Moon Resort grounds. It is nothing like a barn!! They do not even have updated photographs yet of this space on their website but it is beautiful. There is both indoor and outdoor space so guests can decide where they are more comfortable.

This is a photo of our reception! I love this photo! It is located inside the Reception Tent at the Full Moon Resort. This photograph was taken by Aisle Walk Photos (www.aislewalkphotos.com).

This is a photo taken at our after party! This photo is located at the Performance Space at the Full Moon Resort. This space is the reason we ended up choosing the Full Moon for our wedding. The second we both saw it, we were sold. What could be better for an after party than your own private bar with a dance floor and stage? For us, it was the icing on the cake :).

When choosing your location have an idea of the feel you want for your wedding. Before we even started looking, we knew we wanted an outdoor wedding. That right there narrowed down our search on locations. We knew we wanted a place that had a big open tent for the reception. Having an idea of what you want is a great way to get started. We viewed a bunch of places that offered both of these options, and for us the happy surprise of an after party location (which we had no idea where we were going to do that) was PERFECT! Plus, our guests could stay right on site so we didn't even have to think about renting a party bus to get guests safely home.

These are a few moments from my happily ever after, I hope you find yours when you fall in love and say I do! <3

We could not have asked for a better team of photographers to capture every moment of our wedding.  They made us feel so comfortable with the camera and managed to make us all look fabulous ;) .  Our wedding was truly spectacular and we have the most beautiful photos to remember it by.  Our photographers were Jackie Pfeffer and Matt Versweveld.  (www.click-pictures.com)

My very first blog...

Hi World!!!  My name is Kerry and I am new to bloggin’.  My  friend Nicole has inspired me to start this new adventure.  I recently got married in July (2011) and through all of the planning and actual event, I have become completely obsessed with all things wedding.  Nicole suggested I use a blog as an outlet for my wedding obsession and I figured why stop there!!!  I will use this blog for my obsessions with all things lol :)  such as fashion, painting, photography, music, dancing, NYC, travel, food, exercise, CUPCAKES…you name it!!  Right now I am more experimenting with backgrounds, themes, attempting to change colors….(figuring out which blog site I prefer to use…eekkk…I have signed up at blogger.com and bloglovin as well!!!).  Hopefully I find the right fit/match for me.  Okay so I am going to keep this short and sweet and first DECORATE!! Because that is the most important part anyways ;)
